The English language is originated in BRITAIN by British people because English is their native language. And then transferred to Americans. The American population is vast compared to the British. So, they develop the English language in their own way. In India, British English is taught in schools. The main dIfference between American and British English is vocabulary. Pronunciation matters.
There is a lot of difference between two such as Vocabulary, Spellings, Grammar, Accents, etc.
VOCABULARY DIFFERENCE
There is a huge difference between American English in comparison to British English. American English is having the most advance and unique words that British English doesn't have. American English is an improved and updated version of English. It will make you feel confident. Here are some words.
SPELLING DIFFERENTIATION
There is a lot of difference between American English and British English. British English is the old one with the time American English has taken place or you can say overcome everywhere.
Our computer systems are coded with American English if you type the old spellings of words that we learned in British English. It will show you the red line down to the word. It seems to be wrong.
In American English, The silent letters are removed from British English words. Some points that we observed:
- The word in which 'ou' is there but while pronouncing 'u' is silent. American English removes that 'u' from the word. For example, LABOUR became LABOR
- The word in which 'll' is there, American English changes it to 'l' because one l is silent. For Example, TRAVELLED became TRAVELED
- American English change 're' in 'er' For Example- CENTRE became CENTER
- It also changed 'se' to 'ce' For Example: PRACTISE to PRACTICE
- It also changed some 'se' to 'ze'. For Example:ORGANISE to ORGANIZE
