Intonation is the melody of the language. Intonation and stress are linked together, no one can separate them. Intonation means How we are saying something, no matter what we are saying. Intonation is also called the rhythm of language because of the rise and fall of the pitch in the voice while speaking. Intonation is the way of saying something.

When we speak something, there is a tone of talking that affects us a lot. How another person will react to us depends on the tone of the conversation.
It normally describes the feeling of conveying a message to another person. Either we are surprised. angry, happy, excited, grateful, bored, or we are interested. Intonation indicates the mood of the speaker.
It gives hints to those whom you are talking about, Either you are asking a question or you are answering any question. You have finished saying your dialog or you have not completed it yet. These all thing depends on the intonation you are using.
When you learn English, you have to learn how to say not what to say. What? That you already know.
Basically, two types of intonation are used by native English speakers.
Rising Intonation- While speaking any language when the pitch is high in the voice and a raise of voice at the end of the sentence. It is generally used when you are asking a YES, NO question, or showing a lack of belief, or in anger mood.
Falling intonation- When we are speaking and the pitch is low and the voice is also low at the end of the sentence. It is used in normal conversations like in normal statements, Exclamatory situations.

RISE - FALL INTONATION -First there is a rise and then a fall in the pitch in the same sentence.
FALL-RISE INTONATION- First a fall is there in the pitch of voice and then a rise in intonation in the same sentence.
There are many cases where intonation matters. All of them are having different intonations. Like
- Asking questions
- Making statements
- Listing things
- Expressing feelings
- Stressing on important things
- Contrasting between things
- Using tag questions
It is not about reading. The intonation can only be acquired by Talking/Speaking and by listening to audio or video of native speakers,
Modern English music can be very helpful for learning rhythm, stress, and intonation.
Intonation learning will become easy if we listen to short conversation audio or video and then try to copy it. You can Shadow read with it. By practicing this method. there is a good chance of improving the intonation in speech.
You can choose a sentence and try to say that sentence with different intonations. And record it and listen to it. Then you can distinguish between the wrong intonation and right intonations for that particular sentence.
